Palm Beach County Traffic Ticket Info

In 2015, over 125,000 traffic tickets were issued to drivers breaking the law. A large percentage (over 70K) of the tickets were given to drivers caught speeding. Avoid License Suspension in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida

Imagine having your license suspended, even just for 30 days. Would you have someone to give you a ride to work, around town or anywhere else you need to go? How expensive would it be to take a cab every day?

This could be your reality if you become a regular offender and receive multiple traffic tickets in a short amount of time.

  • If you end up with 12 points on your license in one year, the suspension is for 30 days.
  • If you end up with 18 points on your license in 1.5 years, the suspension is for 90 days.
  • If you end up with 24 points on your license in 3 years, the suspension is for 365 days.

The points come with every single traffic ticket and range from 3 to 6, depending on the severity. For example, if you're caught speeding, the ticket will come with 3 or 4 points, depending on your speed. However, if you cause an accident while speeding, the ticket comes with 6 points. It’s easy to see how a few tickets could lead to a suspension.

Basic Driver Improvement Course Offered in Palm Beach Gardens

Drivers receiving a traffic infraction may be able to use the basic driver improvement course offered through online traffic school to avoid points on their license. This helps to keep insurance rates from going up, too.

You don't get out of the ticket, so you will need to pay the fine. When paying the fine, tell the clerk of the court you will enroll in traffic school. Then, enroll online in the basic driver improvement course and complete the course. You will receive a certificate of completion, which you need to turn into the clerk of the court. That's all it takes to avoid points on your license.

Eligibility for Traffic School in Florida

The State of Florida provides five opportunities for drivers to erase points from a traffic ticket. Every driver gets to take the class up to 5 times, but no more. The only other stipulation is that drivers cannot take the course more than once in any 12-month period.

If you haven't taken the course in the past 12 months or a total of 5 times already, you should be eligible to take the basic driver improvement course. You can always check your eligibility with the clerk of the court.
