Keep your Privilege to Drive in Florida

In the State of Florida, driving is a privilege, not a right. Too many infractions may cause your license to be suspended for 30 days to a full year. If you receive 12 points in any one-year period, you may lose your privilege to drive in Florida. Points for traffic infractions include:

  • Speeding - 3 or 4 points
  • Causing an Accident while Speeding - 6 points
  • Reckless Driving - 4 points
  • Moving violations causing an accident - 4 points
  • Leaving an accident after causing property damage of $50 or more - 6 points
  • Other violations - 3 to 4 points

Accumulating 12 points in a 12 month period will lead to a 30-day suspension of your license. However, it doesn't stop there. If you accumulate 18 points in 18 months, you may lose your license for three months and if you accumulate 24 points in a 36 month period, you may lose your license for an entire year. However, you can avoid points on your license by attending traffic school online.

Use Traffic School to Eliminate Points on Your License

A basic driver improvement course may help you eliminate points from a traffic violation. You will also be able to keep your auto insurance rates from going up. The course can even be taken right online and you can work through it at your own pace.

After pleading guilty or no contest to a moving violation, you may be able to attend traffic school. When you successfully complete the course online, you will be able to submit a certificate of completion to the county clerk of the county where you received the violation. This certificate will help to ensure no points are added to your license and your insurance rates don't go up.

Eligibility for Traffic School in Tampa, Florida

You are eligible to use traffic school to eliminate points from a traffic ticket if you haven't taken the course in the past 12 months. The State of Florida allows you to take the course up to five times in your lifetime, as well. If you're eligible to take the course, it's a great way to keep your insurance rates from going up and avoid points on your license.
